Help Trig … linear speed?
A CD player on a CD tour at different speeds depending on where the laser is reading the disc. Suppose information is stored in a 6 centimeters in diameter on a disc. Determine the linear velocity of a point 2 inches from the outer edge of C, when player D is spinning at 240 revolutions per minute. Linear speed = (radius x theta) / hour (Theta is in radians) The answer is 480pi or 1507.96. I do not know how they got that. This is what I did: (3x480pi) / 1 = 1440pi. What am I doing wrong. Thanks for the help!
The disc is 6 cm in diameter, radius = 3 cm of a point 2 cm from the edge is thus 1 cm from the center, so that r = 1 cm. ? / t = 240 x 2? / 1 = 480? rad per min. speed = r? / t = 1 X 480? = 480? cm / min
