I thought it was more like an engine generator. Does APU really produce a signifcant push the boat

Primarily, above are correct. I work in CRJ, a longer version of the Challenger 601. The APU is mounted in line with the exhaust exiting the right side (rear of The CRJ 900) and entering the top of the fuselage. You can walk through APU exhaust and will not call you, please note that running at 100% while in use. Compared with the thousands of pounds of thrust generated by the engines, APU exhaust is nothing. A generator is connected to supply power to all systems and 4 pumps electric, hydraulic (there is still a motor driven pump on each engine, but only works with the engine running). There is also a control valve load to purge air from the engines to start and run (the ACM air conditioners). As it moves into the 10th stage bleed air duct. 14th stage runs the investors thrust and anti-ice, but this is all provided by the engines. So to summarize … which is a small turbine engine that runs a generator and is air, and no, does not provide enough thrust for consideration.
