Can you put insulation around and on top of recessed lights?

I’ve read from other posts that you can put insulation around (touching) IC recessed cans, but can you put it on top and basically baricade the recessed lights with insulation?? -thanks

There are two different types of rec. cans. An I.C. model has a zero clearance capability allowing the insulation to come into contact with the can with no problem. Otherwise you need to maintain two inches of clearance. Most cases it will not cause a fire, but the cans have circuit breakers and will cause the lights to cut off when they overheat. Get an electrician to come out and take a look at the type you have. and they can advise from there.

Recessed Remote Transformer by Tech Lighting $432 The Tech Lighting Recessed Remote Transformer: this remote magnetic transformer converts standard 120 or 277 volt line-voltage to 12 volts or 24 volts (depending on option chosen). This will provide the necessary voltage to power a Monopoint, Monorail, Wall Monorail or Freejack low-voltage, single or dual-feed lighting system.
